Hi,

I have a cell phone with a plan from Rogers in Canada. I am curious if my cell phone will work in Laos?

Yes, your phone will work in Laos since Rogers phones use sim cards. I am not sure if it works in small provinces of Laos since cell phone towers may be sparse there. I would not recommend using your Roger’s sim card in Laos for making calls because the international roaming costs will be very expensive! If you need to make calls while you are in Laos, my advice to you is to unlock your cell phone (you can do this for $20 or so) or buy a cheap unlocked sim card cell phone for $20 or $30 on eBay and take it with you on your trip. Once in Laos you can purchase a sim card for your phone. You`ll get a Lao local phone number, it will only cost you a few dollars and local and long distance calls are fairy cheap. Calling cards must be purchased for both local and long distance calling. Think of it as `pay as you go`. They can be purchased from any convenience store in Laos.
