Pha That Luang, a Buddhist stupa located in Vientiane, is also a proud symbol of Lao national identity. A must have on any traveler's "to visit" list interested in Lao history, religion and architecture.

Pha That Luang's main stupa appears on many official Lao documents, postage, and the Lao national seal.

Buddha's breastbone

According to legend (or myth!) a piece of the Buddga's breastbone was enclosed at Pha That Luang.

Raided, pilfered, destroyed - then rebuilt!

Pha That Luang has been rebuilt to something of its original glory. It had been damaged and destroyed many times in the past due to war.
